Howdle, David George (Leading Aircraftman, b.1904 - d.1969)
Description
Diary and letters written by Leading Aircraftman David Howdle while serving with the RAAF in Australia and Balikpapan. The diary covers the period from Feburary 1943 to September 1944 when Howdle served with the Nos 55 and 52 Operational Base Units, the No 11 Works supply Unit and the No 9 Airfield Construction Squadron in the Northern Territory. In the diary Howdle describes his work with these units, Australian and US planes using the airfields at which he was based, and Japanese air raids on Darwin. The letters are addressed mainly to his wife and daughter and are of a more personal nature but also include details of Howdle's service with the RAAF.
