McHugh, John (Jack) (Corporal, b.1880 - d.1936)
Description
Postcards sent by No. 7851 Corporal Jack McHugh (13th and 20th Batteries, 5th Field Artillery Brigade) from Egypt, France and England to his family and others. Some of the postcards (which include photographs of McHugh individually or in groups) include short written messages with typed transcriptions. McHugh had two periods at the front in France in 1916 and 1918 (in the Armentieres and Saint-Omer areas), spending much of 1917 convalescing in England (including at Harefield) after being wounded. Includes manuscript copies of three poems, two by McHugh.
