Hoppner, Laurence Howard (Private) & Lorraine
Description
Correspondence between Private Hoppner and his girlfriend (later fiance, then wife) Lorraine is mostly love letters, showing the development of their relationship, while also illustrating Laurie's experiences, training and then service in Vietnam with 1 Platoon, A Company, 7 RAR, and conditions in Australia (particularly Melbourne) at the time. Letters mention Nui Dat, duties (e.g. as a forward scout), football results, holiday plans, the difficulties of separation, engagement and marriage plans, and Lorraine's concerns for Laurie's well-being. The letters end shortly after Laurie was wounded. The collection also includes a scrapbook of news clippings compiled by Lorraine, telegrams, and leave and ID passes.
