Description

Phuoc Tuy Province, South Vietnam. 1968-09. Gunner Col Williams of Moss Vale, NSW, stands watch behind his M60 machine gun, on the perimeter defence of a Fire Support Base (FSB) during Operation Hawkesbury, a reconnaissance in force, north of the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) Base at Nui Dat. In the background, manning a 105mm Howitzer are, left to right, Gunner Murray Hall of Albany, WA, and Lance Bombardier Brian Elliott of Dapto, NSW, and Gunner John Herbert of Tomerong, NSW. All are members of the 104th Field Battery, Royal Australian Artillery (RAA). They are protecting the 4RAR /NZ (ANZAC) (The ANZAC Battalion comprising 4th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment and a component from the 1st Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment).
