Collection relating to the service of N14130 Leslie Ian Hamilton Robbins
Description
A group of five soldiers on board a ship's boat from the tender MV Malaita heading for shore, where a small army detachment was based. From left to right: N14276 Corporal Arthur Harold Garwood; N246446 Signalman (Sig) Ronald Arthur (Ron) Warman; N255496 Sig William Allan Appleby; N246397 Sig Angus Edgecombe Forbes; N246439 Sig Kenrick John (Ken) Scully, holding his steel helmet. This group left Sydney on 1941-12-09 to join Lark Force at the Rabaul Garrison. In Rabaul, Sig Scully was confidential secretary to Captain Keith Denny, Commanding Officer of the Signals Unit, and both escaped following the attack by the Japanese on 1942-01-23. After WW2, Sig Scully was a journalist who wrote under the name John Dawes.
