Description
Diary written by Bombardier Norman Hubert Garden during active service in the First World War, chiefly November 1917-January 1919. Entries provide detailed accounts of Garden's experience with the 4th Divisional Ammunition Column, recording the delivery of ammunition to the front line, and German artillery bombardments. Other notable entries include descriptions of a meeting with Prime Minister William Hughes, sightings of Field Marshal Birdwood and General Chauvel, and his experience as a town mayor's assistant in Belgium after the Armistice. Garden returned to Australia in 1920.
