Anonymous Japanese Officer
Description
Typescript translation (1 folio) of an extract from a diary kept by a Japanese Army officer described as being of No. 1 Platoon, No. 2 Company, No. 1 Battalion. The translation is dated 21 to 23 July 1945 but is probably 1 to 3 July 1945. It details the movements of the platoon behind Allied lines in the vicinity of Batakan Ketjill, during the capture of Balikpapan, Borneo. Mention is made of the capture and fatal shooting of a number of local people, a group of whom were later buried by members of 2/14th Battalion.
