Description

South Australia. 1909. The gunboat CNS (formerly HMCS) Protector which had served in the South Australian colonial navy and was to see service of the RAN during the First World War. Note the 8 inch gun barrel protruding from the forward superstructure. The 6 inch guns mounted on the broadside are trained aft. She flies the White Ensign from the peaks of her fore and main masts and the Australian flag aft. (Donor Imperial War Museum Q21655)
