Description
Nui Dat, South Vietnam. March 1970. Lance Corporal Dennis Edwards of Warradale, Adelaide, SA, welds a special wire basket for carrying 105mm ammunition in the 106th Field Workshop at 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF). The 68 inch by 68 inch by 42 inch high 'pig pen' made of galvanised water pipe and standard mesh will carry 160 rounds and when loaded weighs 8,500lbs. The basket can be loaded in fifteen minutes - far quicker than the conventional cargo bag - and carries easily under the giant Chinook helicopters used for resupplying battalions in their fire support bases in the jungle.
