Description
It is a proud moment for the wife of a soldier, who received the British Empire Medal (BEM) at Government House, Sydney, on 22 October, congratulating him after the Investiture. The proud couple are Lieutenant (Lt) and Mrs Robert Rooney of North Ryde, NSW. Lt Rooney was a Warrant Officer when his BEM was first awarded. Part of his citation read: `In recognition of his valuable service in the Royal Australian Regiment (RAR) and the Pacific Islands Regiment between 1956 and 1960 and, after transfer to the Australian Intelligence Corps, as a Vietnamese linguist with the Australian Army Training Team in Vietnam (AATTV)'.
