Description
A message that did not reach the terrorists. Private Ray Mansell, 23, of Townsville, Qld (right), finds the documents in the sock of a `Malayan local', Private Bill Bailey, 24, of Warnambool, Vic (centre), while Private Phil Dickson, 19, of Sylvania Heights, Qld, stands guard. The men are all members of C Company, 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR), and the operation was carried out six miles from Brisbane GPO. At Enoggera Camp, where the unit is stationed, a `Malayan village' has been constructed to train the troops in the correct way of searching for terrorists and supplies. Later this year the battalion leaves for Malaya where its members will be required to do similar work.
