Scheyville, NSW. 25 August 1966. Warrant Officer (WO) Bill Lapthorne of Launceston, Tas (left), gives a lesson in tactics during a realistic field training for National Service Officer Cadets at the 1st Officer Training Unit (OTU), Scheyville, near Windsor, NSW. On the receiving end of the lesson are Officer Cadets John Stringfellow of Mount Claremont, WA (centre), and Damien Aird of Kew, Vic. Both are undergoing a testing 21-week course at OTU Scheyville and successful graduates will be commissioned as 2nd lieutenants to serve out the remainder of their National Service obligations. Scheyville was originally a training farm for young British migrants with the motto `Here Men Are Made'. Today the theme is being continued producing highly trained and mature young Army officers who are required to serve anywhere in Australia's interest. WO Lapthorne, an instructor at OTU Scheyville, was formerly a member of the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam (AATTV), and served as an advisor to Vietnamese Army units and schools.
