Description
Security was at a peak at the opening of the Vi Dan Hospital in Saigon which was attended by the President of the Republic of Vietnam, President Thieu and his wife. An External Affairs grant of about $80,000 enabled the Australian Force Vietnam (AFV) to provide modern medical equipment for the outpatients department of the hospital. The Commander of the AFV, Major General D. B. Dunstan and the senior medical officer with the AFV, Lieutenant Colonel K. J. Fleming were also in attendance. A large crowd lined the streets to view the opening.
