Description
A smiling Squadron Leader Robert Henry Maxwell (Bobby) Gibbes, DSO, DFC, with his leg in plaster. On 25 May 1941, while attacking a Ju-88, his engine was set on fire, and he was forced to 'take the silk' and use his parachute to bale out of the aircraft. He broke his ankle with a heavy landing, aerial wire entangling his parachute when he ejected, but he was safely picked up by the army. (Donor F. Sainsbury)
