Vic. Paybook photograph of VX11838 Gunner Frederick Henry James Pickles, 2/2nd Field Regiment., Royal Australian Artillery. Gunner Pickles, aged 26, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 23 May 1941. He was the son of James and Emma Alice Ann Pickles, of Hobart, Tas.
