South Vietnam. January 1970. The Commander of the Australian Force, Vietnam (COMAFV) designate, Major General (Maj Gen) C. A. E. Fraser of Duntroon, ACT, at Fire Support Base (FSB) Pat, arrives by helicopter. He was speaking with the Commanding Officer of 5th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (5RAR), Lieutenant Colonel Colin Khanh of Woollahra, NSW. Maj Gen Fraser was paying a visit to the theatre to familiarise himself with conditions and the tactical situation before assuming command from COMAFV Maj Gen R. A. Hay in early March. Maj Gen Fraser is the current Commandant of the Royal Military College (RMC), Duntroon, ACT.
