Description
Rangoon, Burma. c. May 1945. 'Knee deep in money'. Before the Japanese retreated they blew up a bank in Shafraz Road, with the result that the pavements on both sides of the road were littered with Japanese occupation currency. Flight Lieutenant J. Dodd, a medical officer of Sligo, Eire (centre) and Leading Aircraftman W. Dimond of Glam, South Wales (right, carrying an Austen machine gun), both of the first contingent of the RAF Regiment to land in Rangoon, collects notes as souvenirs with the help of a local boy.
