Larrakeyah Barracks, NT. c. 1951. Portrait of Mary Lee and her husband NX503880 Sergeant Herbert Francis Lee, Headquarters, Northern Command at a ball. Mary Cubillo, whose tribal name is Mawuka Garawirritja given to her by the people of Elcho Island, married NX503880 Sergeant (later Corporal) Lee, a soldier in the regular Army, who served with the AIF as part of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force (BCOF) in Japan and in the Northern Territory between 1946 and 1956. He also served with the CMF for two separate periods from 1957 to 1960 as 710100 Sergeant Lee with 121 Medium Coastal Battery in the Northern Territory and as 451406 Sergeant Lee with 43 ? Royal South Australian Regiment, a South Australian unit, but residing in the Northern Territory, from 1973 to 1975.
