Description
Suva, Fiji. c. 12 October 1914. The town of Suva and ships at anchor in the harbour, including the battle cruiser HMAS Australia second from left, and the French cruiser Montcalm at far left. Some of the other ships are probably colliers to coal Admiral Patey's ships. Following action around Rabaul, HMAS Australia sailed to Fiji, remaining in the harbour in Suva until information received by the Admiralty indicated the German fleet was on the move and she would be sent to intercept them in South America.
