Description
Handwritten translation (7 pages) of a diary allegedly found on the body of a Japanese officer on 17 November 1943. It is dated 1 October - 16 November 1943 and appears to relate to places in the Ramu Valley area of New Guinea. It describes military operations including casualties, scarcity of food especially their reliance on potatoes, living like rats, American bombing and Japanese offensives against Australian troops. A photocopy of a similar translation of the same diary is held at PR85/059.
