Description
This RAAF Flight Lieutenant, 406260 Francis Ernest (Frank) Parker, No. 450 Squadron RAAF, came back with a broad grin after leading his flight in one of the successful attacks on 19 July 1942 on enemy airfields during the present campaign. He was flying one of the fighter bomber aircraft operating with a force of light bombers. His squadron followed the bombers into the attack, but turned with their bombs loaded to attack a number of enemy aircraft coming in to land. Four Junkers JU 52 aircraft and one JU 87 were claimed shot down. To finish off the operation the fighter-bombers released their loads with deadly accuracy and, making another circuit, swept the airfield with withering fire from their guns. A large number of enemy aircraft were either destroyed or severely damaged.
