Description

Papers of 380 Trooper William Ronald Burchill (6th Light Horse Regiment) mainly documenting his First World War service, comprising: (i) personal diary (and hand written transcript, with some amendments and additions, apparently made at the time), covering the period from his enlistment in December 1914, describing his service on Gallipoli, May-December 1915, including trench fighting, as a machine gunner and burial of the dead, and in Egypt and Palestine, January 1916-November 1917, including involvement in fighting around Katia, Romani and Gaza (ii) a letter to his sister from Egypt, 1915 (iii) service papers, including a Zeitoun Machine Gun Class certificate, as well as a Second World War discharge certificate from 7 Australian Garrison Battalion (iv) a photograph of Burchill, and postcards/photographs of Anzac and Palestine scenes (v) a roll of honour titled '1914-1919 HMAT S.S. Port Hacking', including Burchill (vi) a large illustrated Certificate of Appreciation from the Municipality of Manly, 1919 (vii) a copy of the journal 'Remnants from Randwick'.
