New Guinea. Corporal (Cpl) Arthur Allson of New York is driving his jeep and asking Cpl Walter Mansergh of Minnesota how far it is to Tokyo. The signpost reads, '2200 miles to Tokyo, Washington-7000 miles, Louisiana-8000 miles Texas?'. Torrential rain flooded many of the USA 6th Army men out of their tents in northern New Guinea and gear had to be salvaged with the aid of belly-tank rafts.
