A cross marks the grave in the Moascar War Cemetery, Plot 4, Row B, Grave 15, of 402660 Sergeant (Sgt) Rupert Frederick Arding Downes RAAF, pilot, of No. 1 (ME) Training School RAF, who died 7 October 1942, result of aircraft accident. The service number 403797 shown on the cross is incorrect. Sgt Downes' correct number is 402660. He is the son of Rupert Frederick Arding Downes and Katie May Elizabeth Coghill Downes of Camden, NSW. Moascar War Cemetery is situated just off the main Ismailia-Cairo road, ten kilometres by road from Ismailia.
