Description
Aitape, New Guinea. Lance Corporal Jack Barry of Sydney, NSW, and Private Les O'Rourke of Aberdeen filled their water tins at a stream while the remainder of the water carrying train waits in the background. The work is hard and the boys have named themselves the 'white boong train', with water tins strapped to their backs for the long climb up the 'Golden Stairway', the name given to 846 steps surmounting a ridge in the forward areas.
