Paybook photograph, taken on enlistment, of VX47928 Private (Pte) John Allen Crooke, 2/29 Battalion. Pte Crooke, a fibrous plaster mixer before enlisting, was the son of Mrs E. M. Crooke of Elsternwick, Vic. He was reported missing during the Japanese invasion of Malaya, and is presumed to have died on 28 January 1942.
