Description

Movietone News newsreel extract circa February 1945. Covers the operations of the task force of the US Navy's Third Fleet operating in the China Sea. The US task force operated in a storm that served as a protective blanket for movements in operations against the Japanese. Shows US aircraft carrier with F4U Corsair fighters on the carrier deck. Japanese ships under attack. TBF Avenger torpedeo bombers in flight. A F4U Corsair crash lands on a carrier deck knocking unconscious the pilot who shortly regains consciousness and its assisted out of his aircraft by the deck crew. US destroyer in heavy seas. Retrival of down F6F Hellcat pilot and aircraft by the destroyer's crew. Ship to ship transfer of the downed pilot to his aircraft carrier. The wrecked F6F dropped overboard.
