Mr William McMahon, Australian Minister for Air, meets 2905036 Lieutenant (Lt) William Brian James of Shepparton, NSW, and of B Company, 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR) at the at the Britcom General Hospital. Lt James was awarded an immediate MC for the action in Korea. Recovering from the loss of a leg James remained in the Army in administrative roles and later studied Medicine. Joining the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps (RAAMC) he later served in Vietnam as Officer Commanding 8 Field Ambulance. Retiring as a Major General, James was elected Chairman of the Australian War Memorial Council in 1999.
