Description
c. 1918. Standing outside a hospital and being poured a drink before going on furlough is, probably, 567 Corporal (Cpl) Alfred James Rose MM, 3rd Divisional Train. The other two soldiers are unknown. Cpl Rose was also the Captain of the AIF Australian Rugby Team (1914-1918). Cpl Rose was awarded the Military Medal (MM) at Messines on 16/17 July 1917 whilst leading a pack of mules carrying material for the Engineers, the dump was heavily shelled, killing one and wounding others. Under shell-fire, Driver Rose moved the wounded and dead to shelter, although he was wounded himself. (Donor P. Emblem)
