[study of two horses and two AIF soldiers for 'The Anzacs']
Coverless sketchbook containing 30 sketches of horses, landscape and Anzac Light Horse Memorial 1919
Description
Horse and rider stop suddenly, the horse rears up while another stumbles beneath the hooves of the rearing horse. In the bottom right of the compositon, two Australian Infantry, one standing is coiling backward as the other lies in the ridge holding his rifle in preparation for action.
This was a study for 'The Anzacs' which was Lamberts entry in The Desert Mounted Corps Memorial competition and it commemorates all the Australian Mounted Divisions, the Australian Flying Corps and every other Australian and New Zealand unit and formation that served in Egypt, Palestine and Syria from 1916 to 1918.
