Bower, Frank Graham (Sergeant, b.1920 - d.1942)
Collection relating to the Second World War service of 404478 Sergeant Frank Graham Bower.
Collection consists of approximately 70 personal letters written by Bower, covering the periods of enlistment, training in Australia and Canada, and service in England with the RAAF's 109 Squadron where he flew as a wireless operator / air gunner. The collection also includes an illustrated and bound booklet of typed transcripts of all letters with supplementary copies of official telegrams relating to Bower's presumed death during a mission in March 1942.
Wallet 1 of 4 - consists of 2 folders. Folder 1 contains 24 letters written by Bower addressed to "Mum, Dad and all" dated from 15 September to 30 December 1940. Folder 2 contains 14 letters to "Mum, Dad and all" dated from 5 January to 29 July 1941.
Wallet 2 of 4 - consists of 2 folders. Folder 1 contains 19 letters to "Mum, Dad and All" dated from 12 August to 20 December 1941 and one letter to "Aunt Bessie" dated 2 November 1941. Folder 2 contains 10 letters to "Mum, Dad and All" dated from 2 January 1942 to 24 March 1942.
Wallet 3 of 4 - contains a booklet containing transcripts of Bower's letters.
Wallet 4 of 4 (custom box) - contains one grey air mail compendium with an image of Armstrong Whitworth "G-ABPI" on the cover and "Miss B Bower" written in pencil. The empty folder was previously used to house the letters.
