Description

Ammunition barges moored up against the light cruiser, HMAS Sydney II, to replenish the ammunition expended during the battle of Cape Sparda. Each barge contains two types of shells, which are probably of four and six inch calibre. The rectangular shaped items in the barge (foreground) are possibly water tight covers for three pounder ammunition bins. Note the hospital ship in the background.
