Description
Informal portrait of allied prisoners of war (POWs) in Stalag VIIa. Identified are Bill Walker (far right) and VX5489 Lieutenant (Lt) William Stephen George Foxwell MM, 2/7th Battalion. Lt Foxwell was captured by the Germans in 1941 and spent time in Stalag VIIa before being transferred to Stalag 383 in Hohenfels, Bavaria. He was held there as a POW until 22 April 1945, when the camp was liberated and he left for Paris on a motorcycle. He later flew to England and returned to Australia on board the RMS Otranto in August 1945. (Donor B. Foxwell)
