Nurses or Voluntary Aid Detachment (VADs) run in a race during an Anzac Day sports event at the Australian convalescent depot, which was sited in a former school near Alexandria. A number of soldiers line the makeshift race track and watch from the balustrade and steps near an entrance. Garlands are hung between the trees beside the track.
