Description
A crowd waits to see Avro Lancaster aircraft G for George during its Australian tour. This aircraft, formerly flown by 460 Squadron RAAF, undertook the Third Victory Loan Tour around Australia following its arrival from England. The tour, which ran from 13 March to 27 April 1945, was instigated to assist the Government raise 100 million pounds for the war effort, by the purchase of war bonds. Other aircraft in view are a De Havilland Tiger Moth A17-671 DHA836 (originally built for South Africa, but delivered to RAAF), under George's nose and an Australian built Beaufort bomber aircraft A9-580 (rear) which accompanied George on the tour around Australia.
