Dili, East Timor. 19 November 1999. Two unidentified Australian soldiers of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment, part of the International Force for East Timor (Interfet), sitting on an Australian Light Armoured Vehicle (ASLAV) Type 3 Fitter's Vehicle, 81A, on the beach in Dili. The vehicle is armed with a MAG 58 and equipped with a crane and associated items for the repair of vehicles in the field, and are crewed by tradesmen of the ROyal Australian Electrical and Macheanical Engineers (RAEME). There are four smoke grenade launchers visible to the rear of the crew commanders copola. The soldier on the left is resting his arm on a cable breaker, used to break wires and cables strung up across roads as booby traps. They are probably waiting to be loaded onto HMAS Tarakan, that is bound for the Oecussi enclave in West Timor. In the foreground in a Toyota Land Cruiser troop carrier which is attached to a transport unit of the Logistic Support Force, whose formation sign is a Clydesdale horse, visible on the front bumper.
