The 22nd Battalion cookers in the reserve trenches on the outskirts of the village. Left to right: 229 Private (Pte) Robert Plunkett; 451 Pte Albert Arthur Robin; 479 Pte Robert Lincoln Tidyman (standing on the bank); 359 Sergeant Ernest Harold Davies; 2157 Pte Robert Johnston; 2122 Pte Patrick Berry; 2039 Pte John Brassey O'Neill. The cooks were, as may be seen from their numbers, old battalion identities personally known to most of the men who have passed through the battalion.
