Description
A Squadron 9th Australian Light Horse Regiment camped in the Jordan Valley near Jericho, during the summer of 1918. After the two unsuccessful raids into Gilead, it was decided to hold the western side of the Jordan Valley, from the Dead Sea in the south to the Wady El Auja and Wady Mellaha. This valley was believed by some authorities to be untenable in summer by white troops, but was nevertheless successfully held, the Light Horse forming in general the main portion of the garrison.
