Australian soldiers paying their respects at the graves of their companions killed in action during the campaign. The contemplative soldier in the foreground has been identified as SX9034 Private (later Sergeant) Noel Alfred Tietzel, 2/48th Battalion, of North Adelaide, SA. There is equally strong evidence that the soldier is VX36078 Private (later Corporal) John Francis O'Brien, 2/23rd Battalion.
