VX48424 Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Gladstone Weir, 2/24 Infantry Battalion (1), who was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (DSO) and VX27876 Captain George McAra Thirlwell, 23 Infantry Battalion (2), who received the Military Cross (MC), stand with relatives at Government House. The investiture, by the Duke of Gloucester, Governor-General, was the largest yet held in Australia when over a hundred service personnel received their medals.
