Description

Studio portrait of 3830A Private (Pte) Oscar Alfred Horsten, 49th Battalion from Isisford, Queensland. A 27 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 16 September 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 9th Reinforcements of the 25th Battalion from Brisbane on 31 January 1916 aboard HMAT Wandilla (A62). Following further training in Egypt, he transferred to the 49th Battalion and proceeded to France where he was wounded in action at Mouquet Farm on 13 August 1916. Pte Horsten was repatriated to hospital in England where he died of his wounds on 24 August 1916. He is buried in the Brighton City Cemetery (Bear Road), England.
