Description
Studio portrait of 832 Private (later 2nd Lieutenant) Ronald Malcolm McMillan, 6th Battalion from Fitzroy, Victoria. A 19 year old clerk prior to enlisting on 17 August 1914, he embarked for overseas with G Company from Melbourne aboard HMAT Hororata (A20) on 19 October 1914. While serving at Gallipoli, he was wounded in action but survived to be promoted to Corporal, then Sergeant and then to 2nd Lieutenant on 23 July 1917. While serving on the Western Front, he was killed in action at Zillebeke Bund, Belgium on 21 September 1917 and buried in Hooge Crater Cemetery, Zillebeke.
