Studio portrait of 4780 Sergeant (Sgt) Boyd Cunningham Campbell Thomson, 23rd Battalion from Clyde Bank, Victoria. A 21 year old draughtsman prior to enlisting on 29 June 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 12th Reinforcements from Melbourne on 4 April 1916 aboard HMAT Euripides. After further training in England, he joined the 23rd Battalion in July 1916 and was killed in action on 10 November 1916 near Flers, France. Sgt Thomson is buried in the AIF Burial Ground, Grass Lane, Flers.
