Bien Hoa, South Vietnam. 1965-09. US Corporal Frank Crazy Thunder, a Native American, Oglala Lakota (Sioux) serving in Vietnam with the 173rd United States Airborne Support Battalion, age 33, who works with a detachment of the Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers at Bien Hoa is a big thinker in headdress. He had a special version of the digger hat made for himself to match his Aussie mates. Here in a hat switch are Sergeant Jim Bates, of Liverpool, Sydney, and Corporal Crazy Thunder. Sergeant Bates, a Balcombe Army Apprentice School Graduate with 17 Years’ service experience, is a Clerk Technician.
