BYBLOS, SYRIA. 1942-06-06. GROUP OF NCOS AT NO. 2 AUSTRALIAN RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION COMPANY'S MESS. THE PERSONNEL OF THIS UNIT ARE ENGAGED IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF A RAILWAY FROM BEIRUT TO TRIPOLI, BEING PART OF THE HAIFA-TRIPOLI LINK TO COMPLETE THE CAIRO-LONDON CROSS CONTINENTAL PROJECT. THE PORTION UNDER CONSTRUCTION BY AUSTRALIANS AND SOUTH AFRICANS WAS PREVIOUSLY CONSIDERED BY THE FRENCH AUTHORITIES TO BE IMPRACTICABLE.
