Description

TAPE 1, SIDE 1: Radio chatter, initial contact being described at command post. Commanding Officer (CO) talking to patrol leader about following up contact. Helicopters landing, moving overhead. Tape ends at 26 minutes. TAPE 1, SIDE 2: Starts at 2 minutes. Continuation of radio traffic between command post and artillery and infantry engaged with enemy. One enemy confirmed killed, one escaped but wounded. Night time sounds of insects. Aircraft flying in distance. American woman radio announcer, recorded music Frank Sinatra?, ends at 26 mins. TAPE 2, SIDE 1: starts at 7 minutes with live firing of machine guns, radio conversation between Americans and Australians (artillery units?). Unknown troops discussing experiences. 18 mins: Vietnamese children laughing, singing and shouting "number one". TAPE 2, SIDE 2: Coleridge questioning Vietnamese (in broken Vietnamese) about Viet Cong. Describing meal being eaten by village family that is interrupted by machine gun fire. Meal continues with regular firing in background. Vietnamese woman singing accompanied by stringed instrument (guitar?). END OF RECORDINGS
