Description

The original recordings of radio programs were made by placing the microphone up to the radio speaker, some background sounds are audible. The recording quality is poor to fair. TAPE 1: Service announcement; 1400 (2pm) News bulletin read by Marine Sergeant Carl Carter; music program with station identifications and service announcements; music dedication program presented by Chris Noelle recorded in the United States and syndicated around American Forces Radio; sports report; "Town and Country" country music program; "Gold Music" program presented by Army Specialist Herb Neal(?); station identifications and service announcements are interspersed within the programs. TAPE 2: Music in background; conversation between American man and Vietnamese woman with young child; radio and street noises; conversation between Vietnamese people (possibly in shop); people wailing in street with the sound of bells (possibly a funeral); sound production with echo, sound effects and narration in english by Vietnamese man; American forces radio traffic and battle sounds; AFVN station identification; comments about Vietnam by American servicemen; Vietnamese children singing with the sound of jet aircraft flying over; sound production incorporating drums and bells combined with narration; AFVN "Dawnbuster" program identification; village sounds with explosions in the distance; sounds of: motorised armour, jet aircraft and machineguns, helicopters and radio traffic, artillery firing and echoed voices, hydraulic machinery operating with voices in the background; radio programs excerpts: news in english presented by Vietnamese woman, opera, AFVN "Dawnbusters" program identification.
