Description

Papers accumulated during the war service of Lieutenant Colonel Sir James William Barrett. Covers his work as Registrar of No 1 Australian General Hospital, Executive Officer of the British Red Cross Society Australian Branch in Egypt, Assistant Director Medical Services Australian Forces and from 1916 was consulting opthalmologist and oculist for the Royal Army Medical Corps in Egypt. Included is Barrett's account of the controversy within the AAMC in Egypt and complaints by Colonel's Springthorpe amd Argyle about Barrett's work. There is also correspondence reflecting Barrett's non military interests which included his family and the Bush Nursing Association. Included also are papers of Keith Barrett, collected by his parents following his death while serving in the British Army (4th Royal Fusiliers). He had previously served in the 2nd Field Ambulance AIF.
