Description

Collection relating to 2008 Private Robert 'Roy' Smith of 22 Battalion. Collection consists of correspondence written by Private Smith to his mother describing training at Seymour Camp, Victoria, life on the Gallipoli Peninsula, posting to France and severe wounding at Pozières leading to the loss of one leg, daily activities during convalescence in England and rehabilitation classes. Also contains comments on conscription, the role of women in the war effort and the arrival of American troops.
