Description

Collection relating to the Second World War service of QX11588 Private John Phillip Humphrey 'Jack' Arden, 2/3 Independent Company. Collection consists of accounts written by Arden regarding his training in Australia and experience in New Caledonia and the Wau-Salamaua campaign in New Guinea. There are 4 handwritten accounts titled: '2/3 Aust Independent Coy killed and wounded'; 'Notes on the Battle of Brisbane'; Notes on times spent in action in the jungle'; 'More notes on 2/3'; and a 48 paged typescript titled 'What is a Commando'. Also included are two photographs: one black and white portrait of Arden in 1938 and one colour photograph of Arden (on the right) and Thor Semb (on the left).
